DSWD ensures continuous support for Lumads

The lumads from surigao who have safely returned home to their communities after a year of staying at the provincial sports complex in Tandag, will continue to receive humanitarian support from the government.

This assurance was made by top regional officials of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) during a press forum late Monday afternoon at the agency’s regional conference hall.

“We’re doing our best to look for some support to our lumads by way of recommending more humanitarian support program from the national government,” DSWD 13 Regional Director Dr. Minda B. Brigoli said.

Some of the programs being recommended by the DSWD 13 to the national government is the Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA), Cash-for-Work Assistance (CWA) and other livelihood programs.

Under the proposed ESA, per lumad family will receive P10,000 for reconstruction of their house that were damaged during conflict between government security and lawless group while per lumad worker will also receive P268 per day salary while constructing their damaged house.
