SM TO START CONSTRUCTING MALL IN BUTUAN

SM Prime Holdings Incorporated (SMPHI), the owner of the giant Shoe Mart (SM) shopping chain in the Philippines, is set to begin next month the construction of its new mall.

Mayor Ronnie Vicente “RCL” Lagnada met with Mr. Oliver John R. Tiu, SM Vice-President for Operations – Mindanao Region, to discuss the upcoming construction of SM City Butuan in the 3.5 hectare commercial site along J.C. Aquino Avenue, in front of D&V Building.

Mayor RCL said the city government is looking forward to the construction of the new mall as it will provide many jobs to residents of Butuan. Earlier the plan was to construct only a Hypermarket, but this time, the SM official said “it’s going to be a city mall”.

Mayor RCL assured the SM official that the Local Government of Butuan will be “very friendly in facilitating and processing of the required building permits and other requirements”.

In line with the thrust of the City Government to strengthen environmental and ecological protection, RCL stressed that the mall construction should comply with environmental laws, which will include water facilities and solid waste management. He also added the integration of plants and trees in the design of the mall.

The groundbreaking of SM City Butuan is scheduled on October 2016.
