Urian Polsci studes hold forum on SONA 2017

To raise awareness about the political concerns and about President Duterte’s agenda in his SONA, Father Saturnino Urios University Political Science Society (PSS) organized a whole-day activity, Witnessing the Institution of Change: State of the Nation Address 2017, yesterday, July 24 at CB Lobby.

“Aside sa tradition na kini sa society, amo siyang gibuhat for the enlightenment of the students ug even faculties and staffs maong naa sab siya giheld sa lobby,” stated Armona Ongtico, third-year political science student. The morning activities were officially opened by the PSS President, Mico Torotoro.

PSS also invited Hon. Salutario Cuasito, Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Cabadbaran City, as a guest speaker for the said event. Cuasito discussed the difference between the Martial Law of Marcos and the Martial Law of President Duterte.

“Martial law during the time of Marcos was a replication of the martial law of the United States of America because Filipino’s are fun of copying the practices and ideology of USA. But the martial law of today is different from the martial law of yesterday because the Philippine Constitution is still operational, the Bill of Rights is still present and the House of Senate and Representative are not abolished unlike the martial law in Marcos’ time,” stressed Cuasito.

It also tackled the achievements of Duterte administration in different aspects throughout the whole year which were discussed by the selected third-year political science students.

The morning event ended with the closing remarks of Edmund Ortiz, fourth-year political science student.

Quiz bowl and live streaming for the Presidents SONA marks the end of the event.
